Kumie
Trade name – KUMIE (Heavy hardwood).
Botanical name – Manilkara Celebica.
Family – Sapotaceae.
Kumie is a rare, exotic species of wood. It has a warm reddish-brown color with light streaks, and a very uniform texture. Due to the similarly of individual pieces, it is supplied mostly in Prime grade. Its texture is smooth and very hard. In addition to being widely used in flooring, it is also used in furniture and fine carvings.
Origin and distribution – It is one of 65 species, occure in the tropical zone of South America, Africa, Asia, Pacific and Australia. Komodoor supplies one of Indonesian species from Sulawesi island.
